PENNABILLI, MONTEFELTRO AND TONINO GUERRA |
The Antiques Fair is sunk in history and surrounded by the vegetation of Montefeltro straddling Romagna and the Marche. Not far from Rimini, the Montefeltro is an ideal place for a week-end “far from the madding crowd”, for the discovery of mysterious castles and fortified villages, cities rich in art and history, fresh landscapes away from traffic, cottages where the cuisine and the hospitality have remained the way they were. The city of Pennabilli, especially, perched on the western slope of the Monte Carpegna,is a litlle pearl to discover. Pennabilli ,a typical Medieval small town owes its name to the union of two old castles: Billi which I s located on the Rupe and Penna on the Roccione. Despite its small dimensions (at present it counts approximately 3,000 inhabitants) Pennabilli is proud of its history which oozes from the walls and the perfectly preserved buildings. Pennabilli boasts , in fact, on one hand a bond with the seigniority of the Malatesta of which it is considered the cradle, before this family conquered the region of Romagna, Rimini and Verucchio; on the other the strong ties with the dukedom of Urbino which marked the destiny of central Marches and the relationship with the Montefeltro’s family first and the Della Rovere after. In addition, Pennabilli has been since 1752 the seat of the Diocese of Montefeltro, presently known as Diocese of S. Marino and Montefeltro: the Cathedral, the Sanctuary of S. Agostino with the monument of the Madonna delle Grazie, the Convent of the Agostiniane, the Church and the Hospital of the Misericordia are clear evidence of the importance of the role held throughout the centuries.
A greatexample of the present days is the poet and scriptwriter Tonino Guerra, who has conceived and planned the famous museum “I LUOGHI DELL’ANIMA” ( the places of the soul) which winds through the city of Pennabilli and starts from High Valmarecchia. The 7 open-air museums have the same aim: to stimulate the imagination and the soul of the visitors. The Museums are: l’Orto dei Frutti Dimenticati ( the Garden of the Forgotten Fruits) that houses the endangered species of local fruit trees and works of art by local artists. La strada delle Meridiane ( the Road of the Sundials) which crosses the old city and is embellished with 7 sundials that represent famous pictorial works. Il Giardino Pietrificato ( the Petrified Garden) in the hamlet of Bascio that accommodates 7 ceramic carpets dedicated to historical characters. L’Angelo con I Baffi (the Angel with a Moustache) a multimedia work in the little church of the Caduti. Il Santuario dei Pensieri ( the Sanctuary of Thoughts) a garden for meditation embellished with sculptures in stone of oriental origin. Il Rifugio delle Madonne Abbandonate (The Shelter for the Abandoned Vergin Maries) which conteins a collection of sacred images that had once decorated little temples located at crossroads in the countryside in the High Valmarecchia. La Madonna del Rettangolo di Neve ( The Madonna of the Rectangle of Snow) located in a little church in the middle of the wood, built, it is said, thanks to a divine sign. A space called “ the World of Tonino Guerra” ,in which his artistic work finds hospitality, is also present in Pennabilli. This is not only a museum but also a place where the Poet introduces his works, holds scriptwriting lectures, puts up his reading theatre, meets students and thanks to his archive, to his video library, to his collection of photos, to his library, it becomes a moment of study and close examination of his work and the context in which it was born and developed. |

TRADITION AND QUALITY |
|
The exhibition Antiques of Pennabilli City is one of the historical reviews of our country for over thirty years is the benchmark for millions of fans of ancient art who wish to spend a "moment" of total quality. Quality that is found from the sites that host the show, far from the scattered and sometimes anonymous trade fairs, the exhibition of Pennabilli is steeped in history and in the green Montefeltro. And 'a' journey 'between real and figurative ancient fortified villages overflowing with art and poetry, unspoilt landscapes and genuine hospitality, in proximity to the sea. The visit to the exhibition is a cultural experience all round. If not it would be difficult to understand how this event can grow and bloom every year in a town of only three thousand inhabitants in a valley dotted with small villages that, alone, can not justify the large audience and authority that is found in every edition. |
